I know the passion! I love my chewing gum!! Most sugar free gums are dental safe (they own a logo on them) In Australia Extra or Recaldent chewing gum are the ones I recommend to my patients. I would recommend any gum with xylitol (Trident make a lot of flavors). Xylitol is a sugar alcohol that inhibits caries (it in fact slows bacteria that produce cavities). I haven't had any problems next to it sticking to my fillings.

Honestly, there really isn't a great route to sterilize a toothbrush. Boiling or putting a toothbrush it in the dishwasher will incentive the bristles to break down and it won't work as effectively and possible cause trauma to your gums. I always recommend to my patients that they use an electric type brush. My favorite is the Oral B Braun, but Sonicare is honourable too. The Oral B has a round commander, but they also have a pointed one you can purchase for between the teeth. There is also an ortho-type organizer that fits around brackets. There is usually a 2 min. timer included on the electric brushes. That is nice because most people don't realize that they aren't brushing long satisfactory (less than a minute). Water piks are also good for braces, but they will be messy till you amount out how to manage them. Change head about every 2-3 months beside braces.
When I had braces years ago my Mom bought me a WaterPik, which be great for getting all of the little foodies out from between the braces and my teeth where on earth you can't floss very glibly. After using the WaterPik, I used any old soft-bristled brush. As I remember, I have to change brushes pretty frequently because the braces destroyed the bristles.
I used a WaterPik and like it very much. I bought one for my kids a few years ago, though, and found that too much wet leaks from a communal in the spout tip. If you can find something similar, tho, I'd go for it. Since it cleans near a jet of sea, it can get into tiny spaces around the braces that a toothbrush's bristles can't carry into.
Considering the fact that it's smooth to get cavity started under the braces, and they can't be found near x-rays, it's vital to be verrrryyyyyy fussy about brushing.

You can walk to your dentist's office to buy the professional whitening gel. The stuff you buy at the store isn't strong satisfactory to really work too well. If you dance to a dentist's office they won't charge you for investigational trays again if you tell them you already hold them.

It is not harmful, just see your dentist again at the subsequent appointment. Sometimes it's better to stop if you can't find a root at that appointment. He may decide to extract it, be off it, or refer you to a surgeon. Take Advil until your next call on or whatever your dentist recommended.
